About Outward Bound
The starting place for Outward Bound was discovering Mariaela's work. You could even say, her work is the gravity in which the collection orbits. Each garment and object was selected with Mariaela's work in mind, and some goods were made as a response to her work. We hope you enjoy our first collection. Travel along with us.
Mariaela, a bit of nostalgia, from Poland.
Mariaela’s work was an instant love affair for us. Her thoughtful selections and combinations resonated quite viscerally. She collects bits of flora which are then pressed in books, then combined with recycled glass that she hand cuts, which is sourced near her studio. The hand cut glass is fused, and then formed with tin to create its setting. The finished items are nothing less than stunning, triggering a whim of nostalgia, and also a feeling that you have found an artifact, something encased as a relic of a specific moment.
See the video below of Mariaela making her beautiful work!
“Let us dance in the sun, wearing wild flowers in our hair and let us huddle together as darkness takes over. We are at home amidst the birds and the trees, for we are children of nature.” Susan Polis Schutz
